Cooling System Controls Update - Devon PHOENIX were approached by BNFL and LaMonde Research to look into the replacement of an ageing PLC installation at a BNFL nuclear power station. The system was part of the control for the cooling water for one of the site reactors. It was required to replace the obsolete PLC and code with a new unit but interface with the old remote I/O. BNFL also wished to bring this installation onto the site-wide Intranet and install a local operator interface. PHOENIX were nominated for this work within a wider contract that eventually resulted in PHOENIX working for Balfour Kilpatrick. The work involved the supply, coding and installation of a new PLC, PC and SCADA system. All the work was successfully completed to BNFL standards in 1998 and is still in use. |
